ON-LOCATION RECORDING
The Wildcard of Music Production.
This one is usually fast and furious. A quick wit and decisiveness is paramount. Mistakes happen. Gear failures can spring an ambush at inopportune times. Ambient noise can become a permanent part of the recording. Sessions can be long. Really long. Plan B or C (or even Plan D) may be in order. But at the end of it all there is usually a very Vibey and Honest Representation of the Artist and their Music. Sometimes it's just best to accept the imperfections and make a candid, vulnerable statement.
Communication is essential here. And perhaps the biggest key to success is Adequate Planning and Pre-Production on the part of everyone involved. Location recording is not for the faint of heart but if a client is well-rehearsed and well-organized then good things can happen. The goal of such sessions is often making the best out of less than ideal acoustic conditions. This is both challenging and rewarding and it all comes down to performance quality and choosing the right tools for the right job.
If you fancy a fly-by-wire, no-safety-net workflow then this may be your thing. It's not cheap and it is extremely demanding, but with the right people in the right location it can be a very fun and exhilarating experience.
